Clarifying vs Chelating Shampoos: Eliminating the Gummy Residue?

I was reading a great article on shampooing curly hair on “Natually Curly“. It spoke about the difference between clarifying and chelating shampoos. It addresses the benefits of each of these types of shampoos on removing gummy buildup in naturally curly hair.

Personally, I have never used a chelating shampoo, as I don’t really feel I have a need for one. However, I am a fan of clarifying shampoo. I believe clarifying should be done no matter if you use natural products or commercial products.

Here is a snippet from the article:

“A clarifying shampoo will remove all the buildup from environmental pollutants and product from your tresses. A chelating shampoo is specifically designed to remove heavy buildup from hard water minerals, pool water chemicals, and the regular hair product residue.”
